At the table
Around 1903 Chris Lebeau came into contact with linen manufacturer E.J.F. van Dissel & Sons. This company commissioned the recently graduated artist to design table linen. It was a great opportunity for him to design objects of beauty for people with modest incomes. Lebeau used simple shapes in his designs. And symmetry: one half is the mirror image of the other half. Can you see how the individual butterflies come together to form a rhythmic pattern? A brain wave one could only expect from a perfectionist like Lebeau!
