Another chapter
Burying someone in an existing burial mound adds history to it. Out of respect for the ones who already lie there, new ’occupants’ – with their own stories – were given a place at the edge of the mound. This also happened with a woman who lived between 1600 and 1400 BCE, near the village of Weerdinge. As burial gifts she was given special jewellery: a bracelet (1) and several cloak pins (2). The two largest pins (3) are assumed to be from central Germany, where she may have had good contacts or, perhaps she came from that area herself.
