Bling bling for men

'Does anyone know what time it is?' you ask. With their impressive silver signet chains (27) swinging back and forth to the beat of the music, the men at the party react instantly. They pull out their pocket watches (26) and the fastest of the bunch tells you the time. Some put their pocket watch back right away, others take the key on the other side of the signet chain and quickly wind up their watches. Showing their watches was also a way for men to show off. And if that didn't work, they had all kinds of other beautiful things with them in the 19th century, such as a set of fine collar studs (28) to do up the collar of their shirt or beautiful buckles (29) on their shoes. And perhaps a pocketknife with a silver-plated handle (30). In those days, almost every man carried smoking gear, such as a cigar case (31), a cigar pipe (32), a tinder box (33) or a beautifully decorated tobacco box (34). Even non-smokers might have a cigar mouthpiece, as it was a traditional wedding gift from the bride to her husband-to-be.
