The oldest boat in the world
It is ten thousand years ago. A group of people ventures deep into the forest. They are looking for a tree. They are looking for a tree. They are looking for the perfect tree: dead straight, with few branches and strong enough to carry a person. It doesn't take them long to find it. They have found one! A Scots pine. The giant is cut down with axes made out of flint and antler axes. Then they drag it towards the river. After removing the bark, they start chopping. Hours and hours of concentrated chopping, until the tree is sufficiently hollowed out.
And then the supreme moment is there: breathlessly, the group watches as two people push the hollowed tree into the water. It works! The tree floats! But the most important phase is yet to come. Carefully, one of them steps onto the hollow tree. It sinks deeper into the water, wobbles precariously, then finds a balance and … remains afloat! Everyone cheers with relief and excitement! The hollow tree floats along with the current, followed by the elated group. The birth of the first boat. An invention that will change the world forever.
