Southerners in Noordbarge?
With those terrible Romans moving up from the south, increasingly failing crops, an empty stomach and your ears ringing with alarming stories of war and genocide, you choose to flee. But where to? You could move to low-lying more fertile soils. But you know that you will not exactly be welcomed with open arms there. On the contrary: you will have to fight for your place. If you want safety, you had best head north.
Of course, when people move, they bring along their habits, ways and customs. This can be seen, for example, in the way the southerners built their farms: with a single central row of posts. Instead, the northerners used two rows. Similarly, in the south pottery-making also differed from the northern traditions.
If you had to flee, how would you make sure not to forget where you are actually from?
