Van Gogh in Drenthe

The world-famous painter Vincent van Gogh arrived in Drenthe on 11 September 1883. From 2 October he stayed at Hendrik Scholte's lodging house in the village of Nieuw-Amsterdam/Veenoord. From his room on the first floor Vincent had a nice view of the vast, dark peat landscape of Southeast Drenthe.

If you like, you can visit the room where Van Gogh slept and worked for 63 nights. Find out about Vincent’s experiences in Drenthe at the Van Gogh Huis Drenthe.

Augmented Reality

Especially for families with children, a digital experience is being developed for this location. Expected to be available as of January 2025.
